Social Pressure Among Middle and High School Students in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to explore the phenomenon of social pressure among adolescents in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The participants were 50 middle and high school students of both genders, aged 13 to 17. A questionnaire was used to collect data. The study concluded that, for adolescents, it is very common to encounter situations where people act simply to gain the approval of one or more specific individuals. Furthermore, the adolescents themselves admitted to having forced or pressured others to do something that was wrong, which at times had short- or long-term negative effects on the victim. The importance of this study lies in its highlighting of social pressure as a phenomenon faced by adolescents. This study serves as a starting point for the design and implementation of initiatives that promote awareness, communication, and the overall well-being of adolescents experiencing social pressure.
